Its stems are flattened and may have a purplish cast. Crabgrass leaves are flat, up to 8 inches long, with a prominent mid-vein and a hairy surface on both sides. Crabgrass seed heads are borne on spikes up to 5 inches long. Its other common names are large crabgrass, purple crabgrass, hairy crabgrass, hairy crab grass and redhair crabgrass.
