Delightful New Roses To Savor

Press Packet 2 stories – 5 images
For Spring 2020, U.S. and Canadian gardeners have three delightful new David Austin English Roses to grow and savor. All are soft-hued with distinctive looks and fragrance. 'Emily Brontë' features a two-tone flower in soft pink and apricot. 'Tottering by Gently' has simple pale yellow flowers with a wildflower look. Deeply-cupped 'The Mill on the Floss' has densely packed pink petals that are picotee-edged in carmine-red. “These delicate-looking beauties are exceptionally strong shrub roses that bloom their hearts out, early summer till frost,” says Michael Marriott, technical director and senior rosarian of David Austin Roses Ltd in Albrighton, England.

Fragrant rose flier

Most Fragrant English Roses - Downloadable Flier

English Roses are known for fragrance. Recently, David Austin’s technical director and senior rosarian, Michael Marriott catalogued a compendium of the breeder’s top fragrant varieties.

“Rose perfumes entrance us,” says Marriott. “One whiff can excite instant memory recall. Fragrance is so vivid a sensation that it summons up a specific rose variety with remarkable precision, often including recall of the exact time and place when one first encountered it.”

This downloadble two-sided handout lists Marriott's choices of the most exquisite English Roses roses based, above all, on their fragrances.
